The Department currently employs about 100 Call Firefighters. These individuals staff nine engine companies assigned to four battalions in three separate field divisions. Call Firefighters operate as first responders and are under the supervision and direction of Fire Captains at the nearest fully staffed Fire Station. Call Firefighters are required to complete the 64-hour basic Call Firefighter Training Academy before being certified to actively engage in fire suppression and rescue operations. The Call Firefighter Training Academy consists of an eight-hour training day held over eight Saturdays.
Call firefighters must also pass a pre-employment Medial Examination for the classification of “Arduous-Class IV” and his or her weight must be proportional to their height using the same standard that is used for the Firefighter classification.
