In August of 2010, Post 19 Explorers and members of the Post 19 Parent Booster Club traveled to Argentina for the opportunity to learn more about the Latin American country's fire service. While visiting, Post 19's visit covered approximately 600 miles, visiting 12 different fire departments.
The 2010 trip was memorable and, most importantly, one that that fostered good will and camaraderie between our two nations. Two years later, on August 11, 2012, the hospitality was reciprocated and 25 members of the Argentine Fire Department traveled to California for the opportunity to visit our Post 19 and learn about the fire service in the United States, specifically LACoFD.
As a "kick off" to a week full of department tours and training exercises, the City of Industry graciously hosted a welcome ceremony in the council chambers with a luncheon following. East Region Deputy Chief Angel Montoya and Industry Mayor Jeff Parriott welcomed the group and were presented with plaques as a token of appreciation.
The Argentine firefighters toured various locations which provided an overview of our Department. They were fascinated by the resources and the many services we provide. The itinerary included a visit to Camp 2, Command and Control, a Haz Mat exercise, multiple drills at Fire Station 187 and a visit with Los Angeles City Fire just to name a few.
A very big thank you to all the members of the Department who helped to make each visit or training exercise a memorable experience. Your time, expertise and hospitality have left a lasting impression, promoted good will and will be remembered for many years to come. |
