On September 12, firefighters from Fire Stations 64, 85, 86 and 141 assisted local schoolchildren with picking out appropriate clothing and other essentials as part of the East San Gabriel Valley Soroptomist Club's annual "Back to School Shopping Spree" event with the Bonita Unified School District. For the past 19 years, Club members have donated thousands of dollars to assist needy families within the district, and this year 130 children received much needed basics to start the school year off right.
The event was held at the Target store in San Dimas, where our personnel helped kids try on shoes and clothes and select school supplies. Target pre-pulls clothes for the kids in their sizes prior to their arrival. They also provide cereal for the kids and give each of them a backpack to take home. The Costco Store in San Dimas also donated backpacks for the children. Soroptimist is an international organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls. The name Soroptimist means "best for women."
