This year's National Night Out crime/drug prevention event was held on August 6 throughout Los Angeles County, and LACoFD firefighters were out in their local communities to show their support. National Night Out, is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. It involves more than 10,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world.
Over 1,000 people attend National Night Out at Rimgrove Park in unincorporated La Puente, where they learned about the many resources and partnerships available to them. Vendors, food and entertainment were featured throughout the evening, but an annual favorite is the Los Angeles County Fire Department versus Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department bike relay. This year, Division VIII is proud to report that Fire Station 26 is the winner! The relay creates a fun competition between Fire and the Sheriff's and kicks off the National Night Festivities.
LACoFD firefighters were also in attendance at National Night Out events in Azusa, Carson, Lynwood, San Dimas, West Hollywood and many other communities. Our Department is proud to have participated in this annual program, which promotes neighborhood spirit and safer cities.
