The Codes and Ordinances Unit reports directly to the Fire Marshal. The Captain assigned to this Unit is the Department’s representative for the Western Fire Chiefs Association, the International Conference of Building Officials, and Southern California Fire Prevention Officers on matters related to Codes and Ordinances. This position proposes Code changes to the Uniform Fire Code and Uniform Building Code, as needed. The Captain assigned to this position is also the Department’s representative for meetings with architects, other County or City Departments and the California State Fire Marshal’s Office. This Captain is the code consultant for all Fire Department personnel and conducts research in order to fulfill the above duties; to answer requests for information, and to maintain the Department’s legal and historic library.
