JUNIOR LIFEGUARD PROGRAM

Junior Lifeguards programs were developed to provide beach and water safety training for boys and girls. The programs provide a sound aquatic background while acquainting participants with the hazards of the marine and open water environment. Programs provide education and experience in ocean and open water safety, first aid, rescue techniques, beach activities, physical fitness, and marine safety operations, while exposing participants to an environment that emphasis courtesy, respect, discipline and good sportsmanship.

Programs are designed for children ages 9 to 17. Programs will vary in length and content but participants must meet the minimum requirements of the agency's program they wish to participate in. Although programs vary, participants are usually placed into one of four age divisions.

W.A.T.E.R. PROGRAM

Water Awareness, Training, Education and Recreation offers a wide variety of year-around, ocean-related recreational activities for young people, ages 7-17 on Los Angeles County beaches from Zuma to Cabrillo. Nationally recognized for unique and creative children’s programs, W.A.T.E.R. strives to be on the cutting edge of serving the public with a comprehensive, quality aquatic program. Experienced County Ocean Lifeguards instruct the youth activities, supervising the students and sharing their knowledge of the marine environment.
