DOMESTIC PROGRAMS

In addition to responding to local disasters in Los Angeles County, CA-TF2 is one of 28 Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Task Forces that are prepared to respond to state or federal disasters throughout the United States. The National Urban Search and Rescue Response System, established under the authority of FEMA in 1989, is a framework for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) US&R Task Forces structuring local emergency services professionals into integrated disaster response task forces. For additional information and documents on FEMA’s US&R Response System, see: FEMA: Urban Search and Rescue Response System Document.

CA-TF2 personnel participate with other FEMA USAR Task Force in staffing FEMA’s Incident Support Teams. These multi-disciplined teams of USAR professions come together at the scene of domestic natural and man-made disasters to provide guidance, planning and to oversees the activities of the on-scene USAR task forces.

CA-TF2 personnel participate on various FEMA USAR Working Groups, such as Command & General Staff, Search, Logistics and Communications. These working groups are tasked with maintaining and updating training, equipment and procedures for the many specialties that make up a USAR Task Force, in support of FEMA’s Response System Program staff.
