Four County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) firefighters were honored by the City of Bellflower at the 28th annual BRAVO Awards Ceremony. This ceremonial luncheon was held at the Mayne Events Center on Thursday, April 25, 2024.

Formally known as Bellflower Recognizes Acts of Valor and Outstanding Service, the BRAVO Awards honors first responders, public safety officers, and Good Samaritans for exceptional acts of heroism and remarkable service in the City of Bellflower.

LACoFD Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone, Acting Assistant Fire Chief Jessica Post, and Community Services Liaison La Fonda Riggins attended the event along with local dignitaries, family, and friends.

This year, LACoFD Fire Captain Broc Harmon, Fire Fighter Specialist Nathaniel Solorio, and Fire Fighters Jason Jones and John Machin from Fire Station 23 were recognized for an emergency incident that occurred last year.

On October 23, the team was dispatched to a home to help a woman in active labor. Upon arriving on scene, the firefighters found a mother and a newborn baby with another baby on the way. The firefighters cared for the first baby while preparing for the delivery of the second baby. Firefighters determined the second twin was in a breech position which is a dangerous medical situation for the baby as well as the mother. With careful precision and detail, to ensure the umbilical cord was not wrapped around their neck, the firefighters successfully delivered the baby.

The twins and their mother were transported to a nearby hospital where they made a full recovery and released home.

As always, the LACoFD is grateful for this recognition by the City of Bellflower and is proud to recognize Fire Captain Broc Harmon, Fire Fighter Specialist Nathaniel Solorio, and Fire Fighters Jason Jones and John Machin for embodying the LACoFD’s core values.
