The County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD), in collaboration with Los Bomberos de Los Angeles County, proudly observes National Hispanic Heritage Month, recognizing the contributions and cultural richness of the Hispanic/Latino community.

Held annually from September 15 to October 15, Hispanic Heritage Month offers us the opportunity to honor the history and traditions of Hispanic communities.

Vice President of Los Bomberos, Fire Captain Steve Vargas, shares his perspective on the significance of acknowledging this heritage and how these communities impact our residents’ lives each day.

“At Los Bomberos de LA County, we take pride in the strength of our roots, the richness of our culture, and the unity that grows from our shared history,” said Captain Vargas. “Through every siren we answer, every life we touch, we carry forward the legacy of our ancestors — honoring our past, serving our present, inspiring our future.”

The LACoFD appreciates the significant role and shared dedication of the Hispanic/Latino population in promoting inclusivity and fostering a sense of community, which benefits all residents across the County of Los Angeles.

“As César Chávez so wisely said,” Captain Vargas added, “‘Preservation of one’s own culture does not require contempt or disrespect for other cultures.’”

Let this Hispanic Heritage Month serve as a meaningful time of reflection and celebration for the invaluable contributions and vibrant culture of our Hispanic and Latino residents and communities. The LACoFD reminds everyone to take this opportunity to honor this rich heritage and recognize its profound impact on our society.
