Who We Are

The County of Los Angeles Fire Department’s Forestry Division was established in 1911. Today, the Forestry Division works to mitigate wildfire risk along the vast Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) of Los Angeles County. The Forestry Division is comprised of a total of thirteen units organized under three sections: Defensible Space, Wildfire Preparedness, and Outreach.
The Forestry Division employs professionals from diverse backgrounds, including natural resource management, forestry, horticulture, geographic information systems, regulatory affairs, and landscape architecture. The Forestry Division’s culture of continuing education, cross-training, and internal mobility help staff become multi-disciplinary experts in managing wildfire in Los Angeles County.
