On Monday, December 9, 2024, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) and Los Angeles City Fire Department (LAFD) hosted a Holiday Safety Press Conference held at the LACoFD Cecil Gehr Training Center in the unincorporated area of East Los Angeles.

LACoFD Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone and LAFD Fire Chief Kristin Crowley shared messaging focused on safety and the potential for fire risk during the holiday season. Chief Marrone shared practical tips, such as the importance of keeping live Christmas trees well-watered, safe practices for using holiday decorations, along with the importance of having a family escape plan in the event of a fire. Chief Crowley conveyed the importance of having working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, along with important cooking and driving tips, and the importance of Close Before You Doze.

Following the press conference, a pyrotechnic expert was on hand to demonstrate how quickly a dry Christmas tree can ignite and turn this festive time of year into a devastating one. This annual press conference aims to emphasize the dangers of fire accidents during the holiday season, underscoring the importance of public education made available to prevent disastrous incidents.
