Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) Medical Director Dr. Clayton Kazan recently received the Durfee Award which is given to an individual who has made a significant impact in their contributions to serving children who have experienced trauma and loss.
The Durfee Award is presented by the Inter-Agency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect (ICAN) at its annual conference. This year’s 17th Annual Childhood Grief and Traumatic Loss Conference was held virtually on Thursday, July 28, 2022.
“It has been such a pleasure to represent the Department on the Inter-Agency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect (ICAN) for the past seven years,” said Dr. Kazan. “ICAN’s noble mission has always resonated with me, especially as a physician and parent. I love that, as an emergency and EMS physician, I have been able to add these new perspectives to the group, and I feel extremely humbled that ICAN chose to recognize me with the Durfee Award.”
The Durfee Award honors individuals on the forefront of promoting children’s safety, survival, and joy. As the 2022 recipient, Dr. Kazan was recognized for his exceptional leadership, skill, and honesty in helping children who have experienced traumatic and tragic events as well as his work in prevention and response to those who are affected.
