On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) Lifeguard Division held a graduation ceremony for Ocean Lifeguard Academy (OLA) Class 44 at the Dockweiler State Beach Youth Center in Playa del Rey.
After a rigorous 18-day weekend academy, 21 graduates earned the title of Ocean Lifeguard Recurrent, joining the LACoFD lifeguard team responsible for protecting over 72 miles of Southern California’s coastline.
LACoFD Deputy Fire Chief Robert Harris extended his heartfelt congratulations to the graduates, commending their perseverance and dedication. Chief Harris joined Lifeguard Chief Fernando Boiteux, the Lifeguard Division training cadre, along with family and friends to honor the graduates’ achievements.
“I am proud that you have come this far – but this is only the beginning,” said Chief Harris. “On behalf of the Executive Team, we wish all of you success as you continue your journey with us. Welcome to the best team of lifeguards in the world!”
Congratulations to the graduating class of OLA 44! We know you will all serve with integrity, commitment and courage as you embark on this new journey.
