On Saturday, September 22, 2024, County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) Explorers Oliver Neill and Karina Veloz successfully completed their skills and physical evaluations certification test, earning the title of “Certified Explorer”.
Over the past year, Explorers Neill and Veloz worked diligently, making stellar accomplishments and successfully completing their Explorer Task Books. This included learning about fire station operations, fire equipment, hose management, self-contained breathing apparatus, ladders, ropes and knots, fireground operations, emergency medical services, truck operations, and wildfire operations.
Additionally, Explorers Neill and Veloz participated in monthly 12-hour ride alongs in Division 7, completed a 20-hour Community Emergency Response Team training along with an eight-hour cardiopulmonary resuscitation course, participated in the annual LACoFD Explorer drill, and volunteered at numerous Department and community events.
As a reward for their achievements, Certified Explorers Neill and Veloz will receive their Certified Explorer patch, belt buckle, a set of turnouts, and are now eligible to participate in 12-hour ride alongs at all LACoFD fire stations.
Congratulations to the newly LACoFD Certified Explorers on this significant accomplishment!
