Take Our Young People to Work Day
Providing future generations with invaluable learning experiences about Los Angeles County public service and community pride.
Educating and Inspiring Our Youth
Take Our Young People to Work Day is an annual, County-wide initiative that allows our youth, ages 9 to 17, to shadow their role models and acquire a fundamental understanding of the contributions and differences they can make as members of our larger community.

Why does the Fire Department participate?
Participation and celebration of Take Our Young People to Work Day affords the County of Los Angeles Fire Department an opportunity to impart an appreciation for public service to future generations.
Department personnel engage and inspire our youth by showcasing their hard work and dedication in their respective roles. In return, our youth gain a deeper appreciation of the impact that their role models have on County residents.
Whether at a fire station, lifeguard facility, 9-1-1 dispatch center, or at an administrative office, personnel may bring with them a young guest to shadow and observe their work on Take Our Young People to Work day.

Annual Field Trip Opportunity
In addition to shadowing their mentors, our youth are invited to participate in a complimentary, one-day field trip organized by the Communications Division. This exciting opportunity is available to any Department personnel, including parents, relatives, and mentors, who wish to register a youth for the trip.
Although the itinerary varies annually, past field trips have included visits to Department facilities such as the Lifeguard Division Headquarters in Manhattan Beach, Fire Station 110 in Marina Del Rey, and the Cecil R. Gehr Training Center at Department Headquarters. Participants have enjoyed engaging activities like riding on lifeguard boats, touring fire stations, and interacting with first responders, making each trip both educational and enjoyable.

The LACoFD extends its best wishes to these young people in their journeys toward promising careers in their future.
