The County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) Lifeguard Division proudly participated in the 46th annual National Lifeguard Championships, organized by the United States Lifesaving Association (USLA), which took place from August 6 through August 9, 2025.

Held in Huntington Beach, this year’s championship was a success for the Lifeguard Division, which secured numerous first-place titles in both individual and team events.

Since 1980, the USLA has organized the National Lifeguard Championships, bringing together the country’s best professional lifeguards, alumni and junior lifeguards. This four-day competition allows participants to compete in various challenges that showcase their expertise in life-saving techniques.

Some of the Lifeguard Division’s wins included: Holly Maine, first place in the Open Ironwoman; Coral Kemp and Holly Maine, first place in the Open Women’s Board Rescue; Jake Miller, first place in the Open Men’s Board Race; and Alexander Cole, Hunter Hay, Jake Miller and Stephan Blaauw, first place in the Open Men’s Rescue.

Members of the Junior Lifeguard team also achieved well-deserved wins in several categories, including the Men’s Board Race, the Men’s Paddle Board Relay, and the Men’s Junior Ironguard.

The Lifeguard Division team finished with an impressive total of 993.497 points, earning them the third overall position in this year’s competition. The California State Lifeguard Association secured second place, while the Sussex County lifeguards took home first.

Congratulations to all participants in the USLA Championship for all the hard work they put in, and best of luck as they gear up for next year’s events.
