It was one year ago, on June 14, 2024, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) suffered a devastating loss in the tragic line of duty death of Fire Fighter (FF) Andrew Pontious.

On the anniversary of his passing this past Saturday, June 14, friends, colleagues, and family honored the life and legacy of FF Pontious, including his 19 years of service with our Department, with a Day of Remembrance at Fire Station 93. The Wellness Section joined with Local 1014, Benefit and Welfare, and the Association of Chiefs for a BBQ and day of fellowship to provide support to Andrew’s family, friends, and firefighting family.

At 2:09 p.m, the Los Angeles Communications Center dispatched an “All Call” that shared “Andrew’s watch may have ended…but his bravery never wavered.  He is greatly missed by all of us – and he will never be forgotten.”

Earlier this year, FF Pontious’ name was etched onto the LACoFD Memorial Wall for fallen LACoFD firefighters and memorialized as part of the 2025 National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

The courage, commitment, and ultimate sacrifice of Andrew has not been forgotten.  Together we continue to heal and keep his memory alive.
