The County of Los Angeles Fire Department’s (LACoFD) Fire Explorer Program hosted a two-day Orientation for 145 incoming Explorers at the Cecil R. Gehr Fire Combat Training Center in unincorporated East Los Angeles on August 9, and 10, 2025.
Each day, Explorers arrived early to begin learning what it takes to be a LACoFD Explorer. Participants received hands-on training in hose lay evolutions, extending a 24-foot ladder, tying ropes and knots, utilizing breathing apparatus, and fire hydrant connection techniques. Led by dedicated first responders and administrative personnel, the
orientation not only tested physical stamina but also challenged the Explorers to demonstrate commitment, resilience, and respect.
To culminate their hard work, the LACoFD held a ceremony for family and friends to celebrate each Explorer as they received a certificate of completion from Deputy Chief Robert Harris, Battalion Chiefs Todd Denerson and Jeffery Swingle.
Congratulations to all explorers for successfully completing the LACoFD Fire Explorer Orientation. The Department is proud to welcome the LACoFD’s newest explorers, who will continue this new journey with the returning explorers in early September.
