When Covina resident and widow Betty Sleigh recently turned 90 years old, personnel from Fire Station 153 wanted to make sure she didn’t celebrate by herself.

The crew learned from the City of Covina’s city manager that the widow’s milestone birthday was on June 9.

Betty and her late husband had one son, Larry, who passed away in 2019 at the age of 67.  Without any family nearby to care for her, Betty was on her own.

Firefighters from FS 153 decided to conduct a welfare check on Betty and found her in great spirits as well as surrounded by caring neighbors and friends.  The crew visited to not only bring some birthday cheer and shower her with well wishes, but also present her with a birthday cake and a promise to drop by and celebrate with her again next year.

Happy 90th Birthday, Betty!
