The County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) hosted its annual Aircraft Media Day on Friday, September 5, 2025.

Held at the Van Nuys Airport, LACoFD Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone was joined by Los Angeles County Board Chair and Fifth District Supervisor Kathryn Barger, and Anne-Catherine Briand-Fortin, Acting Delegate of Quèbec in Los Angeles, to provide an update on the 2025 wildfire season and showcase the LACoFD’s fleet of aerial resources.

With ground and aerial resources available 24 hours a day, speakers assured residents that local firefighters will do all they can, both in the air and on the ground, to quickly mobilize to try to contain wildfires before they get out of control.

“Los Angeles has not received significant rainfall this year, causing the vegetation to be prone to wildfire,” said Chief Marrone. “I encourage everyone to be ready by hardening their home, creating defensible space, paying attention to high fire danger days, and developing a Ready! Set! Go! Wildfire Action Plan, and monitoring Genasys Protect for critical evacuation information.”

This annual press conference featured the LACoFD’s current fleet of aerial resources, including the seasonal arrival of the SuperScoopers, the leased Coulson Chinook CH-47, known as Helitanker 55, through a generous partnership with Southern California Edison, both complementing the Department’s Sikorsky S-70 Firehawk and Bell 412 helicopters.
