On Saturday, May 10, 2025, hundreds of residents attended the County of Los Angeles Fire Department’s (LACoFD) East and Central Region Fire Service Day events.

On Thursday, May 22, 2025, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) Lifeguard Division (LG) held a graduation ceremony for Ocean Lifeguard Academy (OLA) Class 43 at the Dockweiler State Beach Youth Center in Playa del Rey.

Throughout the 18-day OLA, ocean lifeguard recurrents learned the principles of lifeguarding including ocean dynamics, rescues, American Red Cross Emergency Responder certification, California State Fire Training Open Water Rescue certification, rescue boat operations, and more! Training took place at various beaches including Hermosa, Manhattan, Venice, and Zuma beaches.

LACoFD Central Regional Operations Bureau Deputy Fire Chief Robert Harris congratulated the 45 graduates and offered some encouraging words as they transition into this new professional journey. “I am proud that you have come this far – but this is only the beginning,” he said. “We wish all of you success as you continue your journey with us. Welcome to the best team of lifeguards in the world!”
