On Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18, 2025, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) Lifeguard Division, Women’s Fire League, and Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion hosted the Fourth Annual Women’s Lifeguard Prep Academy (WLPA) in Venice Beach, California.

WLPA participants 16 years of age and older had the opportunity to train with LACoFD lifeguards and learn what it takes to become an ocean lifeguard. Over two days, participants engaged in acquiring life-saving skills, enhancing ocean swimming techniques, and participating in vigorous physical fitness. Participants were also introduced the many career pathways available in the LACoFD and learned about the Department’s core values, and why teamwork is vital for every lifeguard.

We congratulate the latest round of WLPA participants and applaud the Lifeguard Division and Women’s Fire League for presenting this immersive training opportunity.
