The County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD), in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Women’s Fire League, hosted over 100 participants at the 11th Semiannual Girls’ Fire Camp (GFC) on Saturday, June 7, 2025.

The GFC is a free event held at the LACoFD Cecil R. Gehr Training Center at Department Headquarters in unincorporated East Los Angeles twice a year.

This year, Los Angeles County Third District Supervisor Lindsay P. Horvath joined LACoFD Chief Deputy Theresa Barrera and Deputy Fire Chief Dennis Breshears in welcoming the participants and offering encouraging words to kick-off the GFC.

Open to everyone 9 to 17 years of age, this day-long camp is led by professional firefighters, lifeguards, dispatchers, and administrative team members.

Youth are empowered and exposed to firefighting skills and techniques, equipment and tools, invaluable hands-on experience, along with the many diverse career and volunteer opportunities available in the LACoFD.

If you missed this GFC, another opportunity to join will be this fall!
