After being postponed for a week, the Los Angeles County Fire Department officially held its 2023 Women’s Prep Academy (WFPA) opening day on Saturday, March 4, at Department headquarters.
The WFPA cadre greeted 129 enthusiastic candidates who competed for a spot in the seventh academy that will take place for the next five consecutive Saturdays and one Sunday, ending on Saturday, April 1.
Candidates competed in a series of physical fitness tests, such as the beep test (shuttle run), planks, push-ups, and pull-ups, in hopes of qualifying for the WFPA.
Based on their performance, 113 contestants successfully met the WFPA’s requirements and were able to continue participating in the Academy.
Day one concluded with the WFPA members learning hands-on wildland firefighting tools and techniques.
Thank you to everyone who made opening day a success!
