On Thursday, June 6, 2024, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) joined the Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency, Public Health, the Long Beach Fire Department, American Heart Association, American Red Cross, and various community organizations at the 12th Sidewalk Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Day news conference held at El Dorado Park-West in the City of Long Beach.

Held annually, this news conference aims to encourage and teach community members the essential skills and techniques to perform hands-only CPR along with valuable public education material and various resources to use in cases of cardiac arrest emergencies.  This year’s event further supports the nationwide observance of National CPR Week being commemorated in every state.

LACoFD Medical Director Dr. Clayton Kazan attended the event and emphasized the crucial role individuals play in performing these life-saving actions.  When performed immediately following a cardiac arrest, these measures can significantly improve someone’s chances of survival, and in some cases doubling or tripling their chances of full recovery.

This public-safety event featured LACoFD firefighters and nurses, emergency medical technicians, and other medical professionals teaching Hands-Only CPR as well as automated external defibrillator use, and other life-saving safety tips.

The LACoFD is a committed partner of the annual Countywide Sidewalk CPR Day, aiming to bolster the resilience and preparedness of residents in the communities we serve.
