LACoFD Explorers Completes CERT Training 1024 681 LACoFD Communications Section

On January 25, 2025, 65 County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) Explorers successfully completed a three-day, 20-hour Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training and earned a certificate of completion at LACoFD Headquarters in unincorporated East Los Angeles.

Under the leadership of the CERT cadre, led by Executive Support Division Manager Heidi Oliva (Luna), Fire Captain Chiyoshi Hasegawa, and Fire Fighter Specialist Christopher Freeman, Explorers engaged in hands-on training in disaster preparedness, including but not limited to search and rescue, triage, fire suppression, and team organization.

A CERT completion ceremony was held to recognize the Explorers as they received their certificates from Deputy Fire Chief Robert Harris and Fire Fighter Specialist Christopher Freeman.

For three consecutive Saturdays, beginning January 11, to January 25, each Explorer arrived early and worked diligently to meet the program standards and expectations. In the event of an emergency, the Explorers are now equipped with the skills to care for themselves, their families, and neighbors.
