The 2025 Junior Lifeguard Program summer sessions have concluded, with the last session taking place on August 8.

Conducted by the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) Lifeguard Division over two separate sessions, this intensive summer program aims to inspire the next generation of lifeguards. Through comprehensive teaching and mentorship from current LACoFD lifeguards, participants learned about ocean safety, physical conditioning, basic first aid, environmental awareness, and much more.

Hosted every summer in several locations throughout the Los Angeles County, the program is open to youth ages 9 to 17. To be enrolled in the program, participants must first pass a swim test consisting of a 100 yards freestyle swim in under the required time for their respective age group.

This year, over 3,600 youth participated in the Junior Lifeguard Program. Whether new to the program or returning, these junior lifeguards are now more informed about aquatic safety and are one step closer to becoming professional ocean lifeguards.

Congratulations to this year’s cadre of LACoFD junior lifeguards!
