The County of Los Angeles Fire Department’s (LACoFD) Fire Explorer Program hosted a two-day orientation for its incoming explorers on August 22 and 23, 2026, at the Cecil R. Gehr Training Center in unincorporated East Los Angeles.
Over the two-day orientation, Explorers arrived early each morning to learn what it takes to be an LACoFD Explorer. Participants took part in hands-on training, including hose lay evolutions, ladder exercises, tying ropes and knots, utilizing breathing apparatus, and fire hydrant connections.
Led by dedicated LACoFD first responders and administrative personnel, the orientation challenged Explorers both physically and mentally while emphasizing the values of commitment, resilience, teamwork and respect.
The orientation culminated in Explorers receiving their Task Books and a Certificate of Completion. New Explorers started their post-meetings Wednesday, September 2.
