On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) Chief Deputy Jon O’Brien joined the California Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee (Cal-JAC) Paramedic Academy graduation ceremony in the City of Monterey Park.

Family, friends, colleagues, and partner agencies helped celebrate the 25 graduates from the first Southern California cohort. The training included 515 hours of didactic and skills laboratory training, 160 hours of hospital clinical rotations, and a minimum of 480 hours of field internship with Cal-JAC partner fire departments.

Before providing participants certificates of completion, Cal-JAC, LACoFD, and Local 1014 leadership shared their pride in the accomplishments of every graduate and congratulated them as they prepare to take the next steps in their professional development.

The LACoFD was proud to partner with Cal-JAC to host this latest cohort. To learn more about the Cal-JAC paramedic program, visit caljac.org/pre-apprenticeship.
