On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) held a Flag Ceremony at Fire Station 38, in the City of Los Angeles, in honor of Fire Fighter James O. Taylor who died on November 13, 2024.
A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of and share fond memories in tribute to Fire Fighter Taylor was held on Tuesday, December 4, 2024, at West Angeles Church of God In Christ Church where family, friends, colleagues, and community gathered to support the Taylor family.
Affectionately known as “JT,” Fire Fighter Taylor dedicated an impressive 36 years to serving and protecting the residents of various communities, including Calabasas, Carson, Lawndale, Huntington Park, and the City of Los Angeles. He was also a proud member of the Stentorians of Los Angeles County, an association of African Americans in the fire service that provide youth mentorship, emergency medical technician scholarships, community engagement, support for firefighters, and more.
During the Memorial Service, LACoFD Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone imparted words of expression by saying, “JT held a relentless commitment to service from the moment he joined our Department in October of 1988,” and “As we attempt to manage the grief caused by this loss – we draw strength in cherishing the memories of JT by reflecting on the countless lives he touched and the significant contributions he made…”
In addition to his phenomenal career with the LACoFD, Fire Fighter Taylor was passionate about music, reading, basketball, health and fitness, and he touched countless lives. With his last assignment at Fire Station 38 for over 29+ years, Fire Fighter Taylor was looked upon as a mentor and a local hero at work and in the community.
Survived by his mother, Renate and sister, Sabrina, Fire Fighter Taylor’s legacy will forever be remembered by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
