On Friday, June 14, 2024, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) held a flag ceremony at the Air and Wildland Division in the City of Pacoima in memory of Equipment Maintenance Supervisor, Michael Potechin, who passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.
Throughout his remarkable 24-year career with the LACoFD, Michael displayed exceptional dedication, expertise, and leadership while assigned to the Construction and Maintenance Division and the Equipment Development Committee. Michael was highly regarded as a subject matter expert in the maintenance and regulatory compliance for self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), hoses, and small engines.
To celebrate the life and legacy of Michael, a memorial service was held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the Real Life Church in Valencia where family, friends, and community gathered to support the Potechin family.
During the memorial service, Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone shared heartfelt remarks and shared, “The weight of losing Mike has been terribly hard…but we choose to remember him for the many lives he touched and how much he accomplished.”
Michael is survived by his wife, Penny; their four sons – Brendan, Nickolas, Alex, Andrew; mom, Marjorie; dad, Barry; stepmother, Cheri; older sister, Debbie; stepbrothers, Ray and Jason; and a host of family, colleagues, and friends.
The LACoFD extends its heartfelt condolences to the Potechin family, and his legacy will be forever with us.
