The County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) joins the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), the IAFF Local 1014, and the Firefighter Cancer Support Network (FCSN) in observing Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month during the month of January 2024.
Like many organizations proclaiming Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month across the nation, the LACoFD joins the campaign to raise awareness about the heightened risks of cancer among firefighters, educating persons about the exposure to hazardous materials and extreme health conditions that firefighters experience on duty and the impacts afterwards, and promoting the need for added legislation and health care resources to support the brave firefighters who selflessly protect the communities we serve.
Firefighters play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and well-being of residents in the County and the LACoFD is committed to strengthening best practices, updating policies, and promoting awareness of the associated risk factors to help combat cancer amongst members in our workforce.
The partnership between the LACoFD, IAFF, Labor, and the FCSN is a testament to the power of collaboration in tackling complex health issues like firefighter cancer and combines the expertise, resources, and dedication to create a safer environment for those who protect our communities.
