Flag Ceremony Honors Retired Fire Chief Bragdon 150 150 Adam Carrillo

With Chief Bragdon’s family and friends present, the solemn ceremony took place at Department headquarters on Friday, November 22, 2019.

At the age of 90 years old, Chief Bragdon passed away on October 5, 2019. He had served with the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1952 and was appointed LACoFD Fire Chief in 1977.

After dedicating a total 32 years of service, including four years as a firefighter with the City of Glendale, Chief Bragdon retired in 1984. Soon after, he was appointed by then President Ronald Reagan to head the U.S. Fire Administration and FEMA from 1984 to 1989. In 1990, Chief Bragdon resigned from that post, and he and his wife Dahlia moved back to Southern California.

Chief Bragdon’s wife passed away in 2009.  He is survived by his five sons and their wives as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
