The County of Los Angeles Fire Department’s (LACoFD) Health Hazardous Materials Division (HHMD) graduated a class of five hazardous materials specialists from the HHMD training academy. The Department’s newest hazardous materials specialists completed ten weeks of training prior to earning their promotions and participating in a swearing in ceremony on Tuesday, March 18, 2025.

Deputy Fire Chief Al Yanagisawa, HHMD Chief Mario Tresierras, Assistant Chief Jeff Holwager, Assistant Chief Teresa Quiaoit, Assistant Chief Karen Codding, and Assistant Chief Fernando Flores joined family and friends to commemorate the graduates on their accomplishment.
The HHMD protects public health and the environment throughout Los Angeles County from accidental releases and improper handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous materials and wastes through coordinated efforts of inspections, enforcement, site mitigation oversight, and emergency response.
