Junior Lifeguard Cadet Graduation

Junior Lifeguard Cadet Graduation

Junior Lifeguard Cadet Graduation 150 150 Colton Lucas

The County of Los Angeles Fire Department’s (LACoFD) Lifeguard Division held a graduation ceremony for this year’s cadre of Junior Lifeguard Cadets on Sunday, October 12, 2025, in Marina del Rey.

To honor the accomplishments of all 49 graduates, each cadet earned a Junior Lifeguard Program certificate of completion, as well as an official Junior Lifeguard patch from Deputy Fire Chief Robert Harris, Chief of Lifeguard Services Fernando Boiteux, and the entire training cadre.

Each cadet successfully completed the rigorous program, which included requirements such as an initial swim test tryout, cardiopulmonary-resuscitation certification, a timed 500-meter ocean swim, completion of a Junior Lifeguard Cadet task book, and ocean-lifeguard training.

Cadets are continuously challenged to not only learn basic lifeguarding, ocean safety and rescue skills, but also to provide younger Junior Lifeguards with assistance in leading practical and physical skills training. To graduate as a cadet, each Junior Lifeguard candidate must also complete two years of training, in addition to interning at lifeguard towers with professional LACoFD ocean lifeguards.

The LACoFD extends a heartfelt congratulations to each cadet and offers well wishes to bright futures in ocean lifeguard services.
