The County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) is proud to have two dedicated team members who were honored by Kidde, iHeart, and The Home Depot on Monday, October 13, 2025, at the iHeart Radio Theater in Burbank.
Kidde, in partnership with iHeart and The Home Depot, honored LACoFD Fire Captain Chiyoshi Hasegawa and Fire Fighter Specialist (FFS) Christopher Freeman at the Cause for Alarm Luncheon for their efforts in community risk reduction and public education.
Both Captain Hasegawa and FFS Freeman are currently assigned to the Fire Prevention Division City of Lynwood office and serve as key members of the LACoFD’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training cadre.
Fire Captain Chiyoshi Hasegawa
Captain Hasegawa is a seasoned fire service professional with 17 years of experience with the LACoFD. He began as a LACoFD Explorer, a youth program that prepares individuals from 15 to 20 years old for a career in the fire service. Now, Captain oversees Department fire inspection operations across the cities of Gardena, Huntington Park, South Gate, Lynwood, and Vernon, and serves as a lead instructor (Federal Emergency Management Agency certified) for CERT.
Fire Fighter Specialist Christopher Freeman
With 17 years of LACoFD service, FFS Freeman is dedicated to public safety. His many years of service make him a great co-lead instructor for the LACoFD’s CERT trainings. In addition to CERT, FFS Freeman specializes in inspecting commercial and residential properties to ensure compliance with fire codes, focusing on fire alarm and sprinkler systems.
The Kidde Cause for Alarm luncheon highlights the importance of fire and carbon monoxide safety and celebrates first responders who have gone above and beyond to help keep their communities safe.
This intimate award ceremony honored the LACoFD as well as the Los Angeles City Fire Department, and a young teen who bravely told her story about her experience in a home fire.
The Department is grateful for this recognition and congratulates Captain Hasegawa and FFS Freeman on their achievement.
