On Wednesday, September 25, 2024, County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) Public Information Officer, Fire Captain Sheila Kelliher, joined Los Angeles City Fire Department, along with representatives from ABC7 and Kidde at a press conference to launch the 2024 Operation Save-A-Life campaign.
Operation Save-A-Life is a Kidde-sponsored public service campaign that provides life-saving smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors to families in need. Over the past 20 years, Kidde has generously donated over 1.5 million smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors to fire departments across the country, along with various fire safety resources and products.
In 2023, the LACoFD responded to over 2,800 structure fires, highlighting the urgent need for effective fire safety measures. The U.S. Fire Administration has documented 1,456 home fire fatalities in 2024, underscoring the critical role that smoke alarms play in protecting lives.
Operation Save-A-Life builds upon Fire Prevention Week, which we will celebrate October 6 through 12, 2024. This year’s theme, “Smoke Alarms: Make them work for you!” aims to educate residents and communities on the important role smoke alarms play in preventing fatalities during home fires.

The LACoFD expresses its gratitude to Kidde for their generous donation of these essential safety devices for residents across Los Angeles.
