On Thursday, August 15, 2024, patient Jasmine Horn and her family, joined in a heartwarming reunion with County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) firefighters and Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center (PVHMC) medical team members to express their gratitude for saving her life.
This past June, Jasmine experienced a life-threatening emergency that she miraculously survived with the swift coordinated efforts of her boyfriend, Adam, LACoFD firefighters, and the medical team at PVHMC.
On the day of Adam’s graduation from Cal Poly Pomona, he waited for his girlfriend, Jasmine, to join in celebrating this significant accomplishment. However, a lack of communication and Jasmine’s absence raised concerns, prompting Adam to search for her. His search led him to Jasmine’s car, where he found her unconscious and unresponsive. Adam’s quickly removed Jasmine from the vehicle, alerted nearby witnesses for help, and dialed 9-1-1 for emergency assistance. Without hesitation, he performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) until LACoFD firefighters Fire Station 187 arrived. Once on scene, LACoFD firefighters continued life-saving measures including the application of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to stabilize Jasmine’s heart, before transporting her to PVHMC where she received further care and monitoring throughout her stages of recovery.
During the reunion, Jasmine and the Horn family expressed immense gratitude to the firefighters from Fire Station 187 and PVHMC medical team members for their heroic efforts and collaboration that resulted in her survival and recovery. Jasmine’s father, Floyd Horn III, a highly respected Fire Captain at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, expressed deep gratitude to the brave and dedicated firefighters and medical staff for their commitment and service. “I want to thank you for saving Jasmine’s life, for being professional, and it didn’t take long before Fire’s arrival,” said Fire Captain Horn.
LACoFD Fire Captain James Castellanos, Fire Fighter Specialist Jared Hines, Fire Fighter Paramedic (FFPM) Ariana Abadie, FFPM Adam Calderon, FFPM Nicholas Monico, and Fire Fighter Brian Lugo were amongst those honored during the reunion and were accompanied by Acting Assistant Fire Chief Dustin Robertson and Battalion Chief Frank Baker.
Today, Jasmine continues her healing journey and looks forward to returning to school at Cal Poly Pomona, where she is a Theatre Arts major.
