On the weekend of August 12-13, 2023, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department’s (LACoFD) Fire Explorer Program held a two-day Orientation for over 130 new Explorers at the Cecil R. Gehr Fire Combat Training Center.

Explorers arrived early Saturday morning to receive their equipment and begin learning what it takes to be a LACoFD Explorer. Together in groups, each participant received hands-on training at various stations including hose lay evolutions, ladder techniques, ropes and knots, breathing apparatus, and fire hydrant connection techniques.

That next day, the Explorers continued their rigorous training to improve their skills from day one.

The Orientation concluded with family members cheering on 125 Explorers as they received a certificate of completion from Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone, Acting Deputy Fire Chief Robert Harris, Jack Orswell with Learning for Life, and Battalion Chiefs Todd Denerson, Kevin Price, and David Munoz Jr., during a ceremonial culmination.

Thank you to the instructor cadre, logistics, and administrative team for ensuring a successful Orientation weekend.

The new Explorers will officially begin their post meetings on Wednesday, September 6.
