On Friday, April 11, 2025, County of Los Angeles Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone was joined by Los Angeles County Fourth District Supervisor Janice Hahn, Los Angeles County Internal Services Department Director Michael Owh, and City of Huntington Park officials for the rededication and reopening of Fire Station 164 in the City of Huntington Park after a tragic fire caused its closure.
It was just before 4:00 a.m. on May 1, 2024, when Fire Station 164 firefighters were awakened by a Good Samaritan who alerted them to a fire inside the fire station. Firefighters encountered smoke creeping down the hallway a mere 60 feet from the bunk room as the apparatus floor was consumed with smoke and fire. Unable to reach their turnout gear, firefighters fought the fire in t-shirts and flip flops until nearby firefighters from neighboring fire stations arrived to assist in the firefight. Although the station sustained extensive damage, no one was injured.
With the support of Supervisor Hahn and a Board Motion submitted by Fire Chief Marrone, funding was allocated to help restore the station and it was completed through the combined efforts of the LACoFD Construction and Maintenance Division, Los Angeles County Internal Services Department, and the City of Huntington Park.
The LACoFD is grateful to all those who completed the refurbishment in a record time of 11 months, and is proud to welcome back firefighters, administrative staff, and residents to their hometown fire station, affectionately known as the “Big House!”
