On Friday, September 6, 2024, the Sombrito family joined in a reunion with County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) Fire Station 94 (FS 94) firefighters, to express their heartfelt gratitude for saving the lives of two young children in their family.
During the 2023 Memorial Day weekend, LACoFD firefighters responded to a 9-1-1 emergency call concerning the Sombrito family’s six-year-old son, Marty, who was experiencing severe cold symptoms, and unable to speak as he struggled to breathe.
Thanks to the pre-arrival instructions provided by the 9-1-1 LACoFD dispatcher and medical aid provided by firefighters, Marty was transported to a local area hospital for further evaluation and treatment before being released home the following day. Later that same week, Marty’s younger sister, 3-month-old Mollie, began experiencing the same symptoms as Marty, causing their mother, Emily, to call 9-1-1. After a night’s stay at a local hospital, Mollie was released home to her family.
The children’s parents, Emily and Jacob, were thankful for the opportunity meet and exprecess their appreciation for the fire station personnel for the swift response and EMS care provided to their two children. LACoFD Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone, Deputy Fire Chief Eleni Pappas, and Medical Director, Dr. Clayton Kazan, also attended the reunion to express their gratitude to the members below for their heroic efforts in providing life-safety services:
