LACoFD Joins READY Long Beach 1024 683 LACoFD Communications Section

The County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) participated in the annual READY Long Beach, a Disaster Preparedness event, on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at California State University, Long Beach’s Walter Pyramid.

The Department’s Communication Section’s Public Education team, including the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), along with the Community Outreach, Recruitment, Diversity, and Inclusion Section (CORDI) and Lifeguard Division Recruitment Teams, joined the expo to promote community preparedness and share the Department’s public education programs, career pathways, and youth programs.

This family-friendly event also featured first responder apparatus displays, safety vendors, and a host of safety demonstrations including Stop the Bleed, CERT triage, Hands-Only CPR, and the Jaws of Life.

“In the fire service, you make a lifelong commitment to learning and expanding first responder skills, as do all our CERT volunteers,” said Acting Assistant Fire Chief Jason Robertson. “I am proud to report, in the 20 years that the LACoFD have had its CERT training program, over 20,000 Los Angeles County community members have been trained.”

Launched in 2014, READY Long Beach annually holds this expo to promote emergency preparedness and readiness to the community.
