The County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) expresses heartfelt gratitude to Fire Fighters Specialists (FFS) Kyle Herriot and Robert Bisby who saved the life of a five-year-old child during a near-drowning incident at a family gathering on July 13, 2024, in the City of Lancaster.
The young child is the grandson of LACoFD Call Fire Fighter Ray Butler, who was amongst family members in attendance, including FFSs Herriot and Bisby, who were both off-duty at the time.
With remarkable skill and without hesitation, FFS Herriot and Bisby sprang into action and rescued the child, immediately performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Shortly after these firefighters rendered aid, the child became coherent, with members from Fire Station 130 arriving on scene shortly thereafter to further assist.
The LACoFD extends its sincere appreciation to FFSs Herriot and Bisby for their swift action and unwavering commitment that resulted in the survival of the young child.
This incident also serves a reminder about the importance of public education programs, like the LACoFD Water Watcher program.
Remember, children can drown without a sound. Everyone is encouraged to do their part and promote water safety by designating a Water Watcher.
