The Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) is proud to welcome Dr. Jake Toy who is participating in a fellowship program through a partnership with the Department, Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agency, and Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.

This fellowship program prepares emergency physicians to become EMS specialists and eventually work as medical directors of an EMS program or fire agency.

Dr. Toy began his two-year training with the LACoFD in July 2022, shortly after completing his emergency medicine residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.

By the end of the fellowship, he will have earned a master’s degree in health policy and management through the Jonathan and Karin Fielding School of Public Health at UCLA.

“I hope to gain a broad understanding of all aspects of EMS from daily operations to regional EMS oversight,” said Dr. Toy.  “My specific interest is how we can utilize software technology to advance pre-hospital and emergency care.  I look forward to joining and learning from the LACoFD team!”
