Mama Bear and Cubs Rescued 150 150 Colton Lucas

A mother bear and her two cubs are safely back in the wild thanks to a team effort in La Verne!

On Saturday, August 29, 2026, local residents heard cries for help and discovered the bears trapped inside a cistern at Marshall Canyon County Park. The County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) USAR team quickly jumped into action alongside Fire Station 103, the La Verne Fire Department, Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control, and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Together, crews widened the hole and lowered a ladder into the cistern, allowing the bear family to climb out safely.

We are proud to work with our local partners to protect every member of our community—no matter the species!
