On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) hosted the 2025 Firefighters’ Memorial Service at Department Headquarters in unincorporated East Los Angeles.
This annual memorial service pays tribute to fallen LACoFD team members as they are honored for their service, dedication, and bravery. This year, the names of the following members were added to the Department’s Memorial Wall to uphold their lives and legacies:
• Fire Fighter Andrew Pontious
• Fire Fighter Joseph Gandara
• Fire Fighter Specialist Ulysses Duran
• Fire Fighter Specialist William Lenzen
• Fire Captain Kenneth Renz
Family and friends joined Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone, the Executive Team, Los Angeles County Firefighters’ Memorial Committee, International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1014, Association of Chiefs, and a host of LACoFD personnel to pay tribute.
“For each of them, being a firefighter was a calling, not just a job,” said Chief Marrone. “There is not a day that passes that we do not remember their brave deeds. Their names are not only etched in stone, but forever in our hearts and memories.”
The memorial concluded with the 108 names on the Memorial Wall read aloud, followed by a bell ring to symbolize their last alarm, and helicopter flyover.
