On a Saturday, June 1, 2024, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department’s (LACoFD) Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) hosted its ninth annual Girls’ Fire Camp at the LACoFD Cecil R. Gehr Training Center in East Los Angeles.

Held in partnership with the Women’s Fire League (WFL), this one-day event welcomed more than 100 participants between the ages of 10 to 17 and provided firefighter education and hands-on instruction as part of the camp’s activities.

Starting at 9:30 a.m., the young participants were engaged in fire safety drills, handled firefighting personal protective equipment and tools, learned proper ropes and knots techniques, instructed on ladder use and safety, and took part in emergency response simulations.

At the conclusion of the program, members of the LACoFD WFL and ODEI presented certificates of completion and recognized the young participants for their hard work and dedication.

The LACoFD expresses its gratitude to this year’s participants and looks forward to the next Girls’ Fire Camp.
