The County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD), in collaboration with the Women’s Fire League, was proud to host Day One of the Ninth Annual Women’s Fire Prep Academy (WFPA) at the Headquarters Training Center in unincorporated East Los Angeles. This year’s WFPA began on Saturday, February 22, 2025, with 95 participants. Following a series of endurance and stamina tests, 80 participants successfully passed, earning a spot to continue training in the WFPA for the next five consecutive Saturdays.
The WFPA is designed to help participants build the strength, skills, and confidence needed for a career in firefighting. Over the next five weeks, participants engage in a structured program focused on physical fitness and firefighting skills, including extension ladders, rotary saws, and fire hoses. The academy also emphasizes the importance of teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving in high-pressure situations.
Open to adults 18 years and older, the WFPA offers a unique opportunity for those considering a future in the fire service. By the end of the program, graduates walk away with a deeper understanding of the profession and the foundational skills required to pursue a firefighting career.
