On Friday, April 22, 2022, the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) celebrated the life of Sergio Escobedo, Fire Dispatcher II, at Epiphany Catholic Church in El Monte.

Sergio passed away suddenly at the age of 43 years old; he was a United States Air Force veteran and dedicated 15 years to the Department.

To ensure that all team members from Sergio’s shift could attend the funeral service, Battalion Chief Chris Rash organized a supportive staffing plan that consisted of former dispatchers who are now firefighters and partners from the Long Beach Fire Department and Verdugo Dispatch.

All the support staff received one-and-a-half hours of refresher training on the phones and CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) and began their assignments until the end of Sergio’s funeral service.

The Department would like to thank the following staff members for their kind support:

  • Battalion Chief Chris Rash
  • Fire Fighter Specialist Carlo Acevedo
  • Fire Fighter Specialist Bendon Peart
  • Fire Fighter Specialist Andrew Williams
  • Fire Fighter Paramedic Steve Weston
  • Fire Fighter Kyle Sanford
  • Dispatcher Tiffany Buccini, Long Beach Fire Department
  • Dispatcher Ashley Deboer, Long Beach Fire Department
  • Dispatcher Anastasia Creiman, Verdugo Dispatch
