On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) joined in the nationwide commemoration of Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance to honor and pay tribute to the nearly 3,000 innocent Americans who perished, including 343 firefighters and 71 law enforcement officers.
Many events and tributes were held throughout Los Angeles County to remember the extraordinary courage and selflessness of those who leapt into action that day, running into flames and crumbling buildings to save others, along with the courage and resolve of the passengers aboard United Airlines Flight 93.
Events were hosted by Fifth District Supervisor Kathryn Barger and the Antelope Valley 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony Governance Board, the cities of Los Angeles, Bellflower, Montebello, Azusa, Glendora, Cerritos, along with many others that were attended by local dignitaries, LACoFD firefighters, and other first responders.
In addition, the Los Angeles Communications Center delivered an “All Call” ceremonial message to observe a moment of silence in remembrance of all those who perished.
During this moment of silence, the LACoFD reflected on the heroism, unity, and compassion that guided our nation through that difficult time.
May everyone continue to remain steadfast in the commitment and fortitude to never forget, be of service to others and the community, and cherish the memory of all those who lost their lives.
